Best AI Chatbot for WordPress Websites (Jotform Tutorial)

I’ve tested many AI chatbot builders for WordPress websites. Most of them are broken, hard to set up, or just look bad.

But now, I’ve finally found one that works: Jotform AI Chatbot for WordPress Websites.

This is a really easy one.

You don’t need any tech skills or knowledge to build it. For me, it took about 3 minutes to get it up and running on my website. Just install the plugin, set it up, and you’ll have a chatbot tackle your customer support on your site.

Let me show you how to do it and what kinds of results you can expect from it.

My Experience

Now, let me show you how it works and what kinds of results I got with it on my websites.

To use the tool, sign up and install the plugin here.

Once the installation completes, add the plugin to your WordPress website.

To upload, just sign in to your WordPress website, go to Plugins, “Add Plugin”, click “Upload Plugin”, and choose the file you just downloaded.

Once you’ve selected your plugin file, click “Install”.

Then activate the plugin.

You should now see a new active plugin in your WordPress dashboard called “AI Chatbot for WordPress — Jotform”.

Now you should also see the Jotform AI chatbot on the left-hand side panel as one of the tools. Click on the icon and click “Try it now”.

It then prompts you to sign up. You can use Google to do it to save clicks.

Once you’re in, allow Jotform’s access to your site.

Then set up your chatbot for your website.

For instance, here’s my setup:

If the text is hard to see, here’s what I told my AI chatbot:

Provide customer support for my users by answering questions related to my website content. Don’t search for information outside my site. If I haven’t covered the topic, just let the user know that no answer was found on this site.

Then hit “Create AI Chatbot”.

Then wait for a while (this depends on your website size).

Next, pick a persona for your chatbot.

I chose my avatar to be a 3D animal figure.

Then give your agent a name and role.

I call it “Software helper” since it lives on my software review website. I also gave it the role of “Customer Support Agent”.

Then choose the rest of the AI persona settings, that is, language, tone of voice, greeting message, and the chattiness score.

Then pick an agent style.

You can choose an existing color scheme, so you don’t need any design skills to do this.

Notice that the left-hand side preview shows in real time what your AI chatbot will look like with the current settings.

You can even interact with your chatbot here already, even before publishing the bot.

Then, pick the visibility.

From these settings, you can choose how the chatbot shows up on your site:

  • Layout — Select the look. For example, you can go with Minimal for a simple style.
  • Position — Place it on the Left or Right side of the screen. I commonly see it on the right, so I went with that.
  • Pulsing — Switch on if you want the avatar to gently pulse. I’m not sure what’s the most common one, so let’s keep it pulsing.
  • Open by default — Set if it’s always open or only opens when clicked. I think it makes sense to open it after 5 seconds for the users to pay attention to it.
  • Visible on — Decide if it shows on all devices or only specific ones. I want to be supportive on all devices for maximum accessibility, so I’m not going to restrict this one.

Oh, and don’t forget you can change the visibility on specific pages in the advanced settings.

For example, if you don’t want to show the chatbot on your contact page, you can do the following:

Isn’t it handy?

Then last but not least, we have the Knowledge base section.

Unlike most AI chatbots, you don’t need to tell the AI to read your website content—it already has.

So if you just want to have a chatbot that reads your website and gives answers based on your site, you don’t have to touch anything here.

But if you want the chatbot to include more information from other resources, this is the place to do that.

Here are your options:

So you can basically

  • Add Knowledge — Enter text-based info directly into the system.
  • Upload Documents — Train the chatbot using your files (like PDFs or Word docs).
  • Crawl URL — Pull content from web pages so the chatbot learns from your site.
  • Questions & Answers — Create simple Q&A pairs that the chatbot can use in conversations.

And the AI will learn every single piece of information in these documents and be able to use it in the chatbot as users ask questions related to those pieces of information.

I’ll not add more resources since I want the AI to only reply based on what exists on my site.

Once you’re ready, just hit “Publish”. This makes your AI chatbot go live on your website.

You can always unpublish from the same button.

Anyway, now your website has a chatbot that knows answer to everything that’s said on your site.

Isn’t that cool?

I asked some test questions.

It nailed the first one:

This is from one of my top 10 posts; the result is exactly as the chatbot suggests.

Let’s try it again. This time, I asked how to contact this website.

The response is once again 100% correct. It even knew who the founder of the site was based on what I’ve shared on this site’s about page.

But now, let’s see how well it obeys the instructions I gave to it.

Let’s ask who is the president of the United States. Even though the answer is obvious, the chatbot should tell that it can’t find information about this topic on this site.

Here’s what happened:

Isn’t that cool?

The AI knew to avoid answering even a very basic question like this, since it’s not covered on my site. I don’t want the users to treat my chatbot as a general ChatGPT-like bot and eat up my credits, so that’s why this system is really good for protecting from spam.

So it worked just as I wanted.

Pros

  • Easy to use: You don’t need any coding skills. Just download the plugin, upload it, activate it, and set it up. Other similar tools require you to know how to add code to your website, and so on. This one doesn’t.
  • High Ratings: I dug deeper with this one and spotted that the reviews consistently rate it super high, close to 5/5.
  • Affordable & Scalable Pricing: Very nice free trial version that you can freely mess around with before committing to a paid plan, which is affordable as well.
  • Supports Multiple Languages: Handy if you want to talk to visitors in their own language.
  • Customization: You can make your agent look like yours by choosing from the pre-made color schemes. You can make it talk like you. Also, you can give it instructions like you were talking to a human to train it.
  • WooCommerce Integration: This allows you to connect Jotform WordPress Agent with your online store.

Cons

  • No Custom Photo. I didn’t find an option to use my own photo as the chatbot’s profile picture directly on WordPress. However, you can set that on their website in the “Customization” section.
  • Generic writing. Even though the AI chatbot answered my test questions perfectly, the answers are written in a somewhat generic AI style.

Before we wrap up, let me briefly show you the main features and capabilities of Jotform AI Chatbot Builder.
